from The Violin Bow, Don Reinfeld and Abram Loft, (Woodwork Magazine, April, 2000)
Apologies for several items needing correction below. These are safe general dimensions: width of stick at button and top of frog, 8mm; button flat sometimes flares slightly to, say, 8.2mm; overall frog length, 45mm; frog height, 20mm, 18mm in the center, where it meets bottom facet of stick. Also the nipple (tenon), about 5.5mm in diameter, 1-2mm in length, at the butt end of the stick, fits into a counterbore (mortise) in the wood core of the button. If the button has two rings, as in the diagram, there is usually a shell dot at the end of the button; each ring is reinforced by a 1 mm silver pin. The screw is of uniform diameter (ie not tapered) except for the short section of slightly smaller diameter, which inserts into the inside screwhole. The diagram does not show these details correctly. Thanks for your patience!
