Shipping

What if I need to ship my bow?

I often hear from clients around the country that reliable, quality repair work isn't available where they live. It's always safer to hand carry your bow to the repair shop, but if you decide to ship it, there are relatively safe ways to do it.

Many low-grade bows are very hard to work on: they often require extra time, and the results unsatisfying to the player. To protect myself, I can't agree to do this work unless you give me sufficient info about the bows by email, or call me at the shop. Please don't send any bows for repair without talking with me first.

Pack the bow in a PVC plastic plumbing tube, several inches longer than the bow with a plastic cap at each end. These tubes are available in various diameters and lengths from hardware stores, Home Depot, etc. Consider choosing a tube thick enough to hold more than one bow. You never know....

Be sure to loosen the hair. If you want your bow rehaired, and the hair doesn't loosen completely, cut it with a scissors at least 2 inches from each end.

Wrap the bow(s) in bubble wrap; make sure the tip and the handle are well-protected from the hard ends of the tube. If there are two or more bows, make sure thay don't touch each other. Use your judgment to avoid packing too tight. You shouldn't have to force the wrapped bow into the tube.

If you are shipping to me, please ship via FEDEX and prepay shipping charges both ways. If you have a friend or two send their bows along with yours, you can cut down your share of the shipping charges.

Depending on my schedule and the specific repairs involved, if you ship your bow on a Monday morning, for example (be sure to make arrangements with me in advance by phone or email), you can probably have it back that Wednesday or Thursday. Remember, we must talk before I will accept any bow shipped for repair.
